abstract = "Passive continental margins are theoretically considered stable.
However, several studies have shown that the northeastern margin
of the South American continental plate presents signs of Cenozoic
and Quaternary tectonic reactivations. This issue may be
investigated using morphostructural analysis. In this work we
mapped morphostructural lineaments from a selected area located in
the south central portion of the Para{\'{\i}}ba Basin,
northeastern Brazil, with the main objective of understanding how
neotectonic processes influenced the morphology and sedimentation
in this basin. The linear elements were extracted by analysis of
interferometric radar C-band data from the TOPODATA/INPE database,
which is a derivation of the digital elevation model (DEM)
provided by the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM).
Processing included application of a directional filter at
different azimuths to highlight the morphotectonic lineaments in
different directions with the use of the software ArcMap 9.3. The
result indicated that the lineaments mapped over the sedimentary
units trend in the same direction than several structural
lineaments of the basement shear zones. The three main trends are
related to reactivation of NE-SW, NW-SE and EW trending faults
                         during the Quaternary and Miocene.",
